Web Design I

Course Description:

This course is designed to introduce students to the basic elements of web design and development. Students will learn about content placement, use of color and graphics, typography and message using industry-standard software. Students are introduced to various web design languages, design concepts, and layout theory. Students will become familiar with marketing and other uses of websites; as well as ethical and legal issues related to websites.

  • This course will fulfill the Art/Humanities/Career and Technical Education graduation requirement.
  • Length of Course: 2 semesters and
  • This course is based on or meets the Nevada State Web Design and Development Skills Standards.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will be able to:

  • Create media and content for a website and use HTML/CSS to create interactive web content.
  • Evaluate current browser support for various HTML features.
  • Decide when and how to use HTML features and the implications on the architecture.
  • Discuss web site accessibility issues and implementations.

Class Content

Design
Teaches the fundamentals of design including Principles of Design, Elements of Design, and the Design Cycle.
Development
Teaches the fundamentals of HTML5, CSS, and the history of the internet and the Web. Also teaches digital citizenship.
